7:21 At that very time ¹  Jesus ²  cured many people of diseases, sicknesses, ³  and evil spirits, and granted ⁴  sight to many who were blind.

The Signs of the End of the Age

21:5 Now ⁹  while some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned ¹⁰  with beautiful stones and offerings, ¹¹  Jesus ¹²  said,

[7:21]  ² tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[7:21]  ³ tn Grk “and sicknesses,” but καί (kai) has not been translated since English normally uses a coordinating conjunction only between the last two elements in a series of three or more.

[7:21]  ⁴ tn Or “and bestowed (sight) on.”

[19:5]  ⁵ tc Most mss (A [D] W [Ψ] ˹³ 33^vid Ï latt) read “Jesus looking up, saw him and said.” The words “saw him and” are not in א B L T Θ Ë¹ 579 1241 2542 pc co. Both the testimony for the omission and the natural tendency toward scribal expansion argue for the shorter reading here.

[19:5]  ⁶ tn Grk “hastening, come down.” σπεύσας (speusa") has been translated as a participle of manner.

[19:5]  ⁷ sn I must stay. Jesus revealed the necessity of his associating with people like Zacchaeus (5:31-32). This act of fellowship indicated acceptance.

[19:5]  ⁸ sn On today here and in v. 9, see the note on today in 2:11.

[21:5]  ⁹ tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the transition to a new topic.

[21:5]  ¹⁰ sn The Jerusalem temple was widely admired around the world. See Josephus, Ant. 15.11 (15.380-425); J. W. 5.5 (5.184-227) and Tacitus, History 5.8, who called it “immensely opulent.” Josephus compared it to a beautiful snowcapped mountain.
